There are people who do not like convertibles. Mostly because they were potential problems with the roof and the possibility of rain and bad weather that reduce enjoyment. However, when the Englishman, the creators of the Cabriolet, can fight with their own climate, and finally enjoy in the charm of the bald machine, why shouldn’t I enjoy it too?
It will be as it should be, I will pick up the cold, rheumatism, headache and inflammation of the ears, I will lose the little hair that I have left, but I drive 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata with open roof whenever I can, despite the ridiculous looks of other drivers!
Conveniently, convertibles, especially small roadsters, have become rare goods. Since Fiat Barchetta, Toyota MR and BMW Z3 went away in oblivion; customers of such machines do not have anything to put on the tooth, so the arrival of the fourth generation – 2018 Miata is impatiently awaited.
With a million units sold, over a quarter of a century, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is the best-selling roadster in the history of automotive. And when we are already at the awards and recognition, the fourth generation was initially declared the Best Car in 2016, and from the same jury (an international group of 73 automobile journalists from 23 countries) won the title for the world’s best car design.
It’s better because it’s a shift in style compared to previous generations. The new 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata now has a much sharper design, as if it was leaked by the Lexus virus. It has got necessary changes to keep pace with the times, however, the concept remained the same.
Although this is not apparent at first glance, this MX-5 Miata is also shorter for a total of 11 centimeters (3.92 meters), even the wheelbase is reduced by 2 centimeters. It now seems much more compact and aggressive.
Personally, I find that the style is irresistible, especially when the black linen roof is neatly arranged behind the head of the passenger. With the roof, it loses a bit of magical attraction.

We also liked classic instruments, with a foreman in the foreground. Except as it is larger than other instruments, it is placed in the center and burned up to 8,000 rpm. Not without reason, the engine is happy to rotate up to 7,500 rpm! Let’s also mention the color screen of 7 inches, as it is currently fashionable, just plugged into the central reinforcement. By the reputation of other models of the manufacturer, it is sensitive to touch only when the vehicle is not moving, otherwise, it must be used to control the tunnel between the seat.
The luggage compartment is more than a modest volume of 130 liters. Enough for a couple of small travel bags. However, if you have gone to the supermarket, for the one-week purchase for your family, you’d better go on your own. Packages with water, drinks and other necessities will be able to put away to the passenger seat.
2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata Engine:
Although the small volume, the Miata with 1.5-liter engine appears to be a grumpy, sporty sound, as we expected. Someone may be disappointed with the engine offer, as before the appearance of the fourth generation, it was speculated that Mazda would install a turbocharger or even revive the rotary Wankel engine, which proved inaccurate in the end.
The 2018 Mazda MX-5 is powered by only two atmospheric engines. The 1.5 liters with 131 hp and more powerful than 2.0 liters of capacity, with a power of 160 horsepower. Honestly, the job is done excellently by both engines, though do not expect miracles from 131 hp.
Thanks to the use of aluminum (hood and trunk lid), as well as a lightweight chassis, Mazda’s “magicians” took out a hundred pounds to lower the total mass to less than one ton. Consequently, they have made it easier for the engine to accelerate the vehicle to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds.
The performance is assisted by a well-measured six-speed transmission, with a short lever and a stroke of just a few centimeters.
In the city’s ride, there is poor visibility and the absence of the body protection. Although it does not have a length of even 4 meters, parking sensors would be welcome (they are not provided for an additional charge also).
