After Hyundai introduced the Equus into US markets in 2010, it managed to enter the luxury segment. There are plenty of buyers who are willing to buy this car, which is why Hyundai plans on releasing a next generation 2017 Hyundai Equus. This new offering was recently seen undergoing testing close to the Arctic Circle, and what we saw made us believe that the car is almost completely developed.
The 2017 Hyundai Equus is to lock horns with the likes of the Mercedes Benz S-class and the Lexus LS sedan as well as the BMW 7 series sedans. Keeping in mind the changes that have been made to the new Equus, we think that it will certainly give its competitors a real run for their money.
2017 Hyundai Equus Exterior and Interior
The original 2010 Equus was a novel offering as far as luxury and size went but its design was not the most impressive. The good news is that Hyundai is making some real changes to the design, which means that the new Equus will now be more aggressive looking and attractive.
Even though the test car was under heavy camouflage, we did notice that its front was much more upright and that it had LED headlights as well as a new grille with six sides to it. At the back of the car, there are vertical headlights that seem to be similar to those of the Mercedes S-class. The wheels are large and have multiple spokes and they help to make the car look very attractive. The exhaust outlets are integrated and these add to the style quotient of the vehicle.
The new Equus Concept has impressive interiors. In fact, the cabin is very luxurious and filled with technological features. The use of tough steel and lightweight aluminum gives the car a rigidity that helps to improve the interiors by making them smoother and very quiet.
2017 Hyundai Equus Engine Specs
Under the hood, the 2017 Hyundai Equus will have a single drivetrain, which of course is the 5.0-liter V8 engine that is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and power is transmitted to the rear wheels. This is actually a good combination but the fact that Hyundai is not offering more options is one of the downsides of this car. To rectify this situation, it seems that Hyundai is planning on adding a new 3.3-liter V6 engine. What’s more, the company will also make some improvements to its 5-liter engine in terms of better power as well as fuel economy. The company might also offer a ten-speed automatic transmission, but this will only be available in the 2019 model and not the 2018 version.
2017 Hyundai Equus Release Date and Price
As for price, we think that the 2017 Hyundai Equus will cost about 60,000 dollars plus. This is a good price for a luxury sedan and considering the fact that its main competitors like the Lexus LS and Audi A8 as well as BMW 7 series all cost more, buyers will certainly find the Equus to be an attractive option.
If Hyundai uses a V6 engine to power up the 2017 Hyundai Equus, then it may even lower the prices further. However, a fully loaded Equus will still cost about 70,000 dollars. The new Equus should be available in dealerships some time in 2016.
